When is early voting? Details to know about May 28 primary runoff election

On Tuesday, May 28, El Pasoans will vote in the 2024 primary runoff election.

Voters decide on who will make it to the Nov. 5 General Election. Democrats will vote on four races in the upcoming runoff: El Paso County district attorney, El Paso County sheriff, Texas House District 77 representative, and Precinct 1 constable. Republicans will pick their candidate for U.S. House District 23 race.

No candidate in these races reached the 50% of votes threshold, forcing the runoff election.

When is early voting?

Early voting is from Monday, May 20, to Friday, May 24.

On Election Day, Tuesday, May 28, polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Am I registered to vote?

If you did not vote in the general primary election, you may still vote in the primary runoff election.

Check if you are registered to vote at the El Paso County Elections Department.

Who's on the ballot

El Paso County District Attorney

The winner of this runoff will face the Republican candidate, current El Paso District Attorney Bill Hicks, in the Nov. 5 General Election.

El Paso County sheriff

The winner of this primary runoff will face Republican Minerva Torres Shelton in the Nov. 5 General Election.

State Representative, District 77

With no Republican contenders in the race, the winner of this runoff will win the Texas House seat.

Constable Precinct 1

  • Frank Almada

  • Andrea “Andi” Baca

With no Republican contenders in the race, the winner of this runoff will be the next Precinct 1 constable.

U.S. House District 23

  • Tony Gonzalez

  • Brandon Herrera

The winner of this primary runoff will face Democrat Santos Limon in November.

You can view your sample ballot on the El Paso County Elections Department website, epcountyvotes.com.

Where can I vote?

You can vote at any polling site during the early voting period, Monday, May 20 to Friday, May 24, and on election day, Tuesday, May 28, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. You will need to present an acceptable form of photo ID or complete a Reasonable Impediment Declaration at your polling place and provide a supporting document.

Those without proper ID at polls

A voter who does not have the required ID will be permitted to cast a provisional ballot. The voter must then present proper identification to the County Voter Registrar within six calendar days of the election or the voter's ballot will be rejected.
