Early voting begins next week for April 2 election
Mar. 21—Early voting comes next week in Pontotoc County for voters wanting to cast ballots in the April 2 school elections.
Voters in Allen, Asher and Vanoss will be voting on school board members.
Kelly Hurt and Brad Wofford are facing off in Allen, while Ann Waters Stevenson and Dena G. Anderson go head-to-head in Vanoss and Jacob Cole and Teri Hamilton-Tulane are vying for an open spot in Asher.
In Byng, voters will decide two school propositions totaling just over $30 million.
The first proposition of over $29.4 million will add a new safe room with band room and weight room, a new ag classroom building and shop, a new athletic field house with locker rooms, concession and restrooms, a new track and field and new tennis courts.
A second proposition totaling $550,000 is for school buses.
Also in Roff, Kevin Sheppard and Tim Guzman are vying for a board of trustees spot in the city.
Voters who will not be able to make it to the polls on election day have the option of voting early at their county election board.
Pontotoc County Election Board Secretary Paula Christian said early voting is open to all voters.
"You do not need to provide an excuse to vote early," Christian said.
"Oklahoma allows early voting for all elections conducted by the county election board or state election board-from school board and municipal elections to state and federal elections. This is a great option for those who will be out of town on election day or who want to avoid long lines."
Early voting is available Thursday, March 28 and Friday, March 29 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Pontotoc County Election Board Office, located at 131 W 13th.
Christian reminds voters that early voting is not available at polling locations.
Some voters may need assistance to vote because they are blind or visually disabled, physically disabled or infirmed, or illiterate. Such individuals may request to have an assistant or vote privately and independently using the ATI device attached to the voting device.
Those who require assistance should talk to their precinct official or contact the County Election Board directly for instructions.
