Manuela D'Cunha has never voted in a municipal election, but this byelection, she's making plans to get her ballot in nice and early.

D'Cunha turned 18 in January and has long been eager to vote.

That's why she couldn't believe her luck that the resignation of former Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie meant she would be able to vote far ahead of the federal election, not expected until 2025.

"I'm definitely excited... It's definitely going to be the highlight of this month," the Grade 12 student said.

There are four advance voting days in the mayoral election. Here's what you need to know.

Where and when to vote

Options to vote early begin May 24 from noon until 8 p.m., but only in one location, Mississauga Civic Centre.

Voters can also vote at the civic centre on May 25 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

On June 1 and 2, voters can find a poll closer to home. Voters can cast ballots at any of the following 22 advance voting locations across the city that weekend from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.:

If you are unable to vote early or on election day, June 10, you can also appoint a proxy to vote on your behalf by filling out a voting proxy form.

Who can vote

You can vote in the 2024 byelection if you are a Canadian citizen who is at least 18 years of age. You must also be either a resident of Mississauga, or you or your spouse must own or rent property in Mississauga.

Voters must bring one piece of identification, such as an Ontario driver's licence, cancelled personalized cheque or an insurance policy.
