May 23—HERMITAGE — A local Eagle Scout was recently recognized by the Hermitage Board of Commissioners for his work in the community.

John Rumelfanger, a member of Boy Scout Troop 7, Clark, was presented with a proclamation by Commissioner John Moroco during the board's meeting Wednesday.

For his Eagle Scout project, Rumelfanger completed a restoration of the Jefferson Township Nature Trail in Mercer, where he rebuilt an old trail, installed an additional new trail, repaired the bridge and installed new signs for trail users, according to the proclamation.

Rumelfanger has earned a total of 35 merit badges, culminating with the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouting program.

He has held several leadership positions including senior patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, assistant patrol leader and troop historian, the proclamation states.

Rumelfanger, a Hickory High School student, is expected to be recognized by the Hermitage School Board at their August meeting.
