Dunkin' opens downtown Detroit location ahead of NFL draft

A new and much anticipated Dunkin' location is now open on Woodward Avenue. The Dunkin' welcomed guests starting at 5 a.m. on Monday in time for this week's NFL draft visitors.

The national chain's franchise downtown Detroit location at 1043 Woodward Ave. near State Street is just steps from NFL draft action at Campus Martius.

On the ground level of the Woodward Parking Garage structure, the location was announced in January.Previously, that location was home to Slices Pizza, which closed in August 2020.

This new Dunkin' is billed as a "next generation" location offering several options of nitro cold brew coffees on tap. The downtown location has a selection of doughnuts, Dunkin' Munchkins, muffins and menu of breakfast sandwiches.

A grand opening is set, according to a Facebook post, for 10 a.m.-noon on Wednesday with an 11 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony and a $500 check presentation to Kids Without Cancer taking place. The grand opening continues 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday with giveaways including free coffee for a year (4 per month and only at that downtown location) for the first 100 people.

On its website, Dunkin' lists a location at 1200 S. Antoine St. inside the Hollywood Casino at Greektown. There's also a location inside DMC Harper University Hospital.

Nearby and a few steps from the Dunkin' storefront is the well-known and Detroit favorite Avalon Café and Bakery.  Across Woodward Avenue is the new Hudson site. Coffee giant Starbucks at 777 Woodward Ave. is not far from the Dunkin' and Roasting Plant coffee is also nearby in the First National Building.

This new Dunkin' location joins other nationwide chains marking or planning locations in downtown Detroit. Chipotle Mexican Grill, known for its customizable burritos, burrito bowls, and tacos, opened earlier this month at 630 Woodward Ave., in the First National Building and next to Shake Shack. A Chick-fil-A location, also in the First National Building, is anticipating a May or June opening.
