Drugs, scale found in man’s vehicle after DUI arrest, police say

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A 43-year-old man faces several drug charges after a traffic stop led to a drug bust over the weekend, officials said.

According to an arrest report, the incident occurred on Saturday, March 16, after officers with the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) observed a four door sedan traveling with no lights on and the tag hanging off the back of the vehicle.

Officers reportedly followed the vehicle on Lebanon Pike from Donelson Pike to Graylynn Drive. During that time, “the vehicle did not maintain its lane and crossed several traffic lines,” officials said.

An arrest report states a traffic stop was initiated on Graylynn Drive. When officers approached the vehicle, they reported the driver’s eyes were glassy and asked if he would participate in field sobriety tests.

The driver — identified as 43-year-old Larry Stephney — showed signs of impairment during the test, authorities reported.

According to MNPD, Stephney was taken into custody based on his inability to maintain his lane and performing poorly on the field sobriety tests.

During a search of the vehicle, officers found a smoking device on the front passenger seat alongside a bag of plastic white powder weighing 11.9 grams, a crystal rock in a bag weighing 5.96 grams, a bag of crushed pills weighing 20.86 grams and a scale.

Authorities reported Stephney plead guilty for possession with intent in 2020, and currently has a pending case of possession with intent from 2023.

Stephney faces three felony drug and DUI charges. He remains jailed on a $76,500 bond.
