Athens-Clarke police along with FBI agents, Homeland Security and several area and state law enforcement agencies recently participated in the arrests of three Athens men and the seizure of large amounts of drugs and guns.

The arrests occurred Thursday at undisclosed locations in Athens, police Lt. Jody Thompson announced Monday.

The seized drugs included about 77 pounds of cocaine and 5 pounds of methamphetamine, according to Thompson. Also seized were about 2 pounds each of the deadly drug fentanyl and heroin.

“It was an impressive seizure. That is a lot of cocaine and a sizeable amount of meth,” he said, adding that officers did not want to be specific on where the search warrants were served.

Police also seized 19 firearms with two pistols modified with switches that enabled automatic firing capabilities, according to police.

The three suspects were all charged with trafficking in the drugs and remained in jail Monday without bond. Thompson said more charges are expected and he noted the likelihood of federal gun violation charges.

Among the guns seized was this 1911 Colt with fancy engravements.
