Drug Take Back Day in Raleigh County

BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) – Pharmacies and companies in the Raleigh County area are hoping to help you clean out your medicine cabinet and also help to clean up the streets.

Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration are partnering for the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Initiative. Boxes will be set up at the Crab Orchard Pharmacy to collect any expired or unneeded medication.

Bill would allow West Virginia to import prescription drugs

The Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office has permanent prescription drop-off boxes located in the lobby of the Sheriff`s Office Law Enforcement Division.

Pharmacist Kathlyn Sallaz spoke with 59News about the disposal process.

“The sheriff’s department gets rid of those medications; they are incinerated, they are burned,” said Sallaz.

Sallaz asked that inhalants be disposed of separately. This service is completely free to the public.

The take-back runs on Saturday, April 27th from 10 a.m until 2 p.m.
