Driver seriously hurt after tire blows out on I-64 in James City County

JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — A driver was seriously hurt after blowing a tire on Interstate 64 in James City County on Tuesday afternoon.

Virginia State Police say the crash happened just after noon at the 233 mile marker, and the vehicle rolled over several times in the median after the tire blew out.

First responders took the driver to Riverside Regional Hospital for treatment.

The crash shut down traffic in the area for several hours, as crews removed the vehicle and exposed diesel fuel. All lanes reopened on I-64 at 4:39 p.m.

Police say the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
