Driver crashes car into an East St. Louis building

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. — A building in East St. Louis sustains heavy damage after a car crashes into it overnight. This morning, we are getting updated information from East St. Louis police. It all happened at 22nd and State in East St. Louis about 3:30-4 a.m. The car wound up completely inside the building.

East St. Louis police tell us the driver of the car that crashed into the building told officers he was shot at 20 times. But police found no evidence of any shooting. The driver was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

It appears the car which crashed into the building was a Lincoln sedan with temporary tags. Both passenger side doors on the vehicle were missing when the car was removed from the building. Authorities might have cut off those doors in order to possibly get the driver out of the vehicle.

Brother and sister killed in St. Louis County; charges filed

There were multiple police agencies at the scene earlier, including East St. Louis Police, Illinois State Police and Washington Park Police. East St. Louis Police told us this morning that the driver may have suffered a broken leg and that he appeared to be intoxicated.

We’re told that the side of the building which the car crashed into is vacant. But there is an active hair salon on the other side of the building. It’s unclear right now whether the driver of the car that crashed into the building will face any charges.
