Driver found guilty in crash that killed Oakton High School students

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — A jury found a driver who was charged in a crash that killed two girls in June 2022 guilty on Wednesday.

Usman Shahid faced two counts of involuntary manslaughter for the deaths of Oakton High School students Ada Martinez Nolasco and Leeyan Yan.

Prosecutors said Shahid, who only had his learner’s permit at the time of the incident, was driving at more than 80 mph before his car hit another car in the area of Blake Lane and Five Oaks Road, south of Oakton High School, shortly after the school dismissed for the day.

The cars spun out, hitting three girls who were on foot, including Nolasco and Yan. The third teenager survived.
