Driver was fleeing from traffic stop before deadly MS crash

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A driver was fleeing from a Mississippi Highway Patrol traffic stop before a crash that killed an elderly couple Wednesday, according to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office.

At around 4 p.m. Wednesday, Marshall County 911 received a call regarding a two-vehicle crash on South Red Banks Road near Marianna Road. It was determined that the occupants were stuck inside both vehicles.

Reports say one of the drivers was actively fleeing a Mississippi Highway Patrolman’s attempted traffic stop at the time of the crash.

Fire and rescue units used extraction equipment to free the occupants of the vehicles.

According to Marshall County Medical Examiner, James Anderson, a woman identified as Rosie Jeffries, was pronounced dead on the scene, and her husband, Curtis Jeffries, later died at the hospital.

The occupant of another vehicle was airlifted to Regional One Hospital in critical condition.
