A driver escaped deputies after leading them on a high-speed chase from Arroyo Grande to San Luis Obispo on Thursday afternoon.

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office spotted a stolen vehicle off of Lopez Drive in Arroyo Grande and initiated the pursuit, according to agency spokesperson Tony Cipolla.

The white Chevrolet Equinox evaded the deputies — speeding through Arroyo Grande before swerving onto Highway 227 toward San Luis Obispo, according to emergency scanner radio traffic.

The driver then took a detour onto Corbett Canyon Road at about 5 p.m. driving about 60 mph, law enforcement said on the scanner. Around 5:08 p.m., the car sped past Edna Valley Vineyard on Biddle Ranch Road, according to scanner traffic.

Law enforcement then pursued the driver northbound on Orcutt Road toward Laurel Lane. By 5:17 p.m., deputies lost sight of the vehicle, according to scanner traffic

“When the vehicle reached the outskirts of San Luis Obispo city, the pursuit was discontinued for public safety,” Cipolla told The Tribune.
