Driver dies after running off Route 17 in Gloucester County

GLOUCESTER, Va. (WAVY) — A driver died after colliding with a truck and overturning in the median on Route 17 in Gloucester County on Monday.

Virginia State Police say the two-vehicle crash happened around 11:38 p.m. on northbound Route 17 near Glenns Road.

Police say the driver of a Hyundai Elantra, a male from Middlesex County, tried to change lanes when his vehicle collided with a Ford F-350 carrying three people.

The collision caused the Hyundai to veer into the median and overturn, killing the driver of the Hyundai. Police say he wasn’t wearing a seat belt at the time and died after being ejected.

The three people in the Ford were not injured.

Police later clarified that they were still working to determine who was at fault in the crash. Check back for updates.
