Driver charged after men hang out of windows with guns: MPD

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is accused of recklessly driving a stolen car while multiple others hung out of the windows holding handguns.

Johnathan Martin, 30, is charged with Driving While License Revoked, Evading Arrest in Auto, Evading Arrest, two counts of Disregarding Stop Sign, Theft of Property $10,000-$60,000, Reckless Endangerment with a Deadly Weapon, and Reckless Driving.

His bond was set at $50,000.

Tuesday, Memphis Police responded to an armed party in the 1800 block of Netherwood Street. They saw a white Nissan driving recklessly with four to five men hanging out the window with guns.

A traffic stop was initiated, but the car sped off, police say.

The driver, later identified as Johnathan Martin, reportedly ran stop signs, steered recklessly to escape the police, and drove at a high rate of speed where the limit was 30 MPH.

The vehicle hit a dip, triggering the airbags.

MPD says the men inside got out and ran in unknown directions. Martin was found in the area of South Parkway. His license had been revoked in 2015 for failure to pay a fine.

The car had been registered as stolen in January 2024.

Man convicted in car auction scheme says victims will get money back

Jonathan Martin is set to appear in court Friday. It is unknown if any of the other men involved were charged.
