Driver arrested in hit-and-run that killed 21-year-old El Paso woman on Lee Trevino Drive
A driver suspected in a fatal pedestrian hit-and-run was arrested after being followed by a witness who saw a woman struck while crossing Lee Trevino Drive, El Paso police said.
Leslie Lopez, 25, of the East Side, was arrested on a charge of collision involving the death of Kimberly Alissa Espinoza, 21, of Northeast El Paso, who died at a hospital from her injuries, police said on Monday.
The fatal collision occurred at 2:50 a.m. on Sunday, May 19, in a nightlife area in the 1500 block of Lee Trevino Drive near Vista Del Sol Drive.

Lopez was driving a 2018 Jeep Cherokee southbound when she allegedly struck Espinoza, who was not in a crosswalk as she was crossing Lee Trevino Drive in front of a bar, according to a police news release.
When police arrived, Espinoza was on a sidewalk receiving first aid. She was transported to a hospital, where she died, police said. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Espinoza's family.

The Jeep Cherokee left the scene but a witness who saw the collision followed the vehicle and called police, who arrested Lopez in the 900 block of Duskin Drive in the Loma Terrace neighborhood off Lee Trevino Drive in the Lower Valley, police said.
A jail log shows that Lopez was released from the El Paso County Jail a day later after posting a $110,000 bond. Lopez's passenger, Enrique Soto, 36, was arrested on an unrelated traffic warrant, police said.
There have been 25 traffic-related deaths in El Paso this year compared with 21 at the same time last year, according to EPPD figures.
