WILLIAMSBURG, Brooklyn (PIX11) — A driver was arrested after hitting and killing a 10-year-old girl in a Brooklyn crosswalk on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Isaac Karczag, 62, was driving a Buick SUV when he crossed a solid yellow line and allegedly struck Yitty Wertzberger in the crosswalk near Franklin Avenue and Wallabout Street in Williamsburg at around 2:42 p.m., according to the NYPD.

The girl was rushed to the hospital with severe bodily injuries but could not be saved, police said. Wertzberger was a few blocks from her home on Walton Street when she was hit and killed, police said.

Karczag was heading west on Wallabout Street and veered into the eastbound lane before making a left turn on Franklin Avenue, police said.

The driver remained at the scene and was later arrested and charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian, disobeying a traffic device, and failure to exercise due care, according to the NYPD. His arraignment was pending Wednesday.

It was unclear if Karczag would face additional charges, police said. The investigation is ongoing.
