Doug Wood to perform at Headwaters Peace Center April 6

Apr. 2—BEMIDJI — The Headwaters Unitarian Universalist Fellowship will host Doug Wood for an evening of song and stories at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, at Headwaters Peace Center, 1826 Mikrantip Road SW.

As a professional musician and songwriter, Wood is a virtuoso performer on 12-string guitar, mandolin and banjo, a release said.

Wood is also the author of 35 books for children and adults, with over two and a half million copies in print. His first book,

"Old Turtle,"

was hailed a "profound work" and an "instant classic," the release said.

He has received the Christopher Medal, ABBY Award, International Reading Association Book of the Year, Minnesota Book Award, Midwest Publishers Association Book of the Year, Parent's Choice Award, Smithsonian Notable Book Award, Barnes and Noble Star of the North, Story Telling World Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Minnesota Association for Environmental Education.
