When does early voting in Texas primary end?

As this week’s Texas local primary elections approach, voters in the state still have the opportunity to cast their ballots early.

Following last month’s presidential and congressional primaries in the state, voters can now vote in the May 4 primary elections for offices including local school boards, city council seats, state Senate District 15, and local bond prepositions.

When does early voting end?

Before Saturday’s election, Texans can still vote early in person or by mail. Here are the deadlines:

  • Tuesday, April 30: Last day to vote early in person.

  • Saturday, May 4: Non-postmarked ballots must be returned by 7:00 p.m. Central Time on Saturday. Postmarked ballots returned by that deadline must be received by 5:00 p.m. on May 6.

What is needed to vote early?

Texas’ voter ID law requires voters to provide a form of acceptable ID either at the polling place when casting an early ballot or include an ID number on a mail-in ballot. Here are the acceptable forms of ID for voting early in person:

  • Texas driver license

  • Texas election identification certificate

  • Texas personal identification card

  • Texas handgun license

  • United States military identification card containing the person’s photograph

  • United States citizenship certificate

  • United States passport

To cast a mail-in ballot, voters must provide a number from either their election ID, driver’s license, Texas personal ID, or the last four digits of their social security number.
