Doctor Who boss Russell T Davies has teased a possible return for Jinkx Monsoon's villain Maestro.

The RuPaul's Drag Race sensation debuted as a sinister being in the second episode of the new series, titled 'The Devil's Chord'. Maestro was closely related to The Toymaker, who appeared in last year's 60th-anniversary special 'The Giggle'.

Having swallowed up the entire planet's musical expression, Maestro was ultimately banished back into their piano prison thanks to the emergence of The Beatles.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter after the episode's premiere, Davies was questioned on why the Doctor didn't perform a 'decomposing gag' after Maestro's demise.

"Yes, I thought about it at the end," he admitted. "But I thought that would really sound like Maestro is dead, and if ever there's a character ripe for return — it's Maestro!"

And with Maestro warning of The One Who Waits, maybe they'll have an even bigger part to play somewhere in series 14.

This comes after Jinkx herself discussed portraying Maestro earlier in the month.

"When human rules don't apply to you, you get to do whatever you want. You don't have to worry about whether your emotions make sense to people because you don't have to answer to them. And that's really freeing when you're playing a character," she reflected.

"What I love about Maestro is that while objectively evil, they are an artist, they have a mission statement. And that was really lovely to play."

Doctor Who debuts new episodes at midnight on Saturday, airing on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere. Classic episodes of Doctor Who are available on BBC iPlayer in the UK.
