Disagreement at Little Rock Kroger leads to shooting, customers facing battery charges

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Two Kroger customers are facing battery charges after a disagreement led to a shooting inside the Little Rock grocery store Wednesday night.

Officials with the Little Rock Police Department said that 43-year-old Shearee Jones is facing a first-degree battery charge while 48-year-old Yusuf Muhammad is facing a third-degree battery charge in connection to the shooting.

According to the LRPD, officers were notified of the shooting at the Kroger store on Roosevelt Road just after 9 p.m.

The police report stated that witnesses on the scene said the incident began when Muhammad started harassing Jones in the checkout line, noting that he was being aggressive towards her, even after she asked him to stop.

Witnesses also said that Muhammad assaulted Jones, causing an abrasion, according to the police report.

After the assault, the report said that Jones began shooting at Muhammad. Witnesses noted that Muhammad left the store but returned, which led to Jones firing more shots, the report said.

Little Rock gas station worker shot multiple times during Sunday night robbery

Muhammad was taken to the hospital for treatment, but officers have not released information on his condition.

Jones was taken to the Pulaski County Regional Detention Facility where she is being held without bond.

A spokesperson with Kroger released the following statement Thursday morning:

“At Kroger, we value the safety of our associates and customers. We are currently working with local authorities in this ongoing investigation.”
