Did You Notice This Patriotic Pattern in Hillary Clinton's Pantsuits?
Hillary Clinton, Queen of the Pantsuit, knows that in this election, everything matters-even the clothes. Though she's been sticking to her staple coat-and-trousers look throughout the race, that doesn't mean she's taking her election wardrobe lightly.
For all three of her presidential debate looks, which were all by quintessential American designer Ralph Lauren, she didn't stick to the "Democratic blue" dress code. She went full-on patriotic by cleverly dressing in red, white and blue suits. (She did save the white one for last, but how could she not, with a look that striking?) Let's take a look back at her suits of choice.
Debate #1: The Democratic nominee kicked off the debate circuit on a strong note with in these bright red Ralph Lauren co-ords. She paired the look with a pair of low-heeled black pumps with bow accents-and a matching red lip too.
Debate #2: Clinton opted for a hint of the unexpected in this navy Lauren suit with white lapels over a white crewneck top. She chose kitten-heeled pumps, sans bows, to complete the look.
Debate #3: For her third and final face-off with Donald Trump, Clinton dressed in white Lauren-designed separates with oversized buttoned detailing down the front. The all-white look was reminiscent of her ensemble at the Democratic National Convention this summer, but its importance transcended the simple repetition of a famous outfit.
Her choice to wear white was a subtle tribute to the suffragettes, who sported the same color (along with purple and green) during the Women's Movement. It was a poignant move for the first female presidential candidate of a major political party who could potentially go down in history as the first female president of the United States. To Clinton, dressing for this election is all in the details-physically and historically.
