ARLINGTON, Va. (DC News Now) — Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley performed well in several Northern Virginia areas, but it was not enough to net her a victory in the commonwealth.

Former President Donald Trump handily won the primary election Tuesday, fueling his bid to be the Republican nominee in November.

As of 10 p.m., Haley had leads in Arlington, Alexandria, Falls Church and Fairfax County. But Trump had leads in most other locations in the region, including Loudoun County, Prince William County and Stafford County.

President Joe Biden defeated his two challengers in Virginia as well.

A Trump-Biden rematch is encouraging some Virginia voters to rally around their party’s candidate.

“If you voted for Nikki Haley, if you’re a Democrat and you voted for her, Nikki Haley, we welcome you to this party,” said Matthew Hurtt, the chair of Arlington GOP. “So we could talk about the issues that create the opportunity for the American dream.”

“Trump could end our democracy as we know it,” said Pat Brookover, an Arlington voter who voted for Biden. “It’s important to support the president in this case.”
