Deputies fatally shoot man in Victorville

San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies shot and killed a man in front of a Victorville gas station on Thursday morning, authorities said.

The incident was first reported as a traffic collision just before 10 a.m. along Mariposa Road, just south of Nisqualli Road, according to San Bernardino County Fire Department logs.

Witnesses said that a man had been struck by two vehicles, San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Mara Rodriguez said.

"When deputies arrived and contacted the adult male pedestrian a lethal force encounter occurred and the pedestrian was struck by gunfire," she said.

Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

No further details were released as the investigation remained in its early stages.

Mariposa Road remained shut down between Nisqualli Road and Cottonwood Avenue as investigators continued working at the scene on Thursday afternoon.
