Deputies arrest Johnson City man wanted by U.S. Marshals

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) – A wanted Johnson City man was arrested by the Washington County, Tennessee Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) on Saturday.

According to the WCSO, deputies stopped a vehicle driven by Daniel Thomas Workman, 45, on Tuesday. Workman’s vehicle was stopped near Kingsport Highway and Oak Grove Road after deputies saw he reportedly was not wearing a seatbelt.

The WCSO reports a background check was conducted and revealed Workman was on “supervised released status with probation and had a fully extraditable warrant from the U.S. Marshals Service.”

A search of the vehicle reportedly found a backpack with a loaded handgun inside, along with an additional loaded magazine. Workman also told deputies bowls and scales were in the vehicle, a new release from the WCSO states.

Deputies reported finding a glass bowl with residue in the backpack and golden brass knuckles.

Workman was charged with prohibited weapons, unlawful carrying or possession of a firearm, unlawful drug paraphernalia and violation of the seat belt law.

According to the sheriff’s office, Workman was arrested in 2016 on drug charges and sentenced to 72 months in prison and four years of supervised release. He was also charged with felony conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, which resulted in another 72-month sentence.

After the traffic stop and search, Workman was transported to the Washington County Detention Center. While there, he reportedly experienced dizziness. As a result, he was taken to a local hospital before being booked into jail.
