Deputies: 85-year-old dies after Richland Twp. crash

RICHLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — An 85-year-old driver died Friday after a crash in Richland Township, deputies say.

The crash happened around 2:20 p.m. on M-89 near North 30th Street, according to the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say a car was heading west when the driver lost control and slid into the eastbound lane. Then, an eastbound car hit the westbound car, causing injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.

When deputies arrived, firefighters were providing medical aid to an unresponsive driver. Deputies say lifesaving efforts were not successful, and the driver, an 85-year-old from Richland, died on scene. The driver’s name was not released Friday.

The other driver, a 46-year-old from Holland, experienced minor injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.

The office says M-89 reopened around 4 p.m. The crash remains under investigation.
