Denver has yet to hit 70 degrees in 2024 and it’s historically late

DENVER (KDVR) — Though the weather in Denver has been comfortable lately, it hasn’t hit 70 degrees just yet.

Historically, the Mile High City usually sees temperatures in the 70s by March 9, even though March is the snowiest month of the year for Denver.

Denver has seen over 3 feet of snow this season. Is that normal?

But as of Sunday, March 31, the warmest day was 69 degrees on March 2. Since then, there have been multiple days in the upper 60s.

When was the last time it took this long to hit 70?

It’s been 23 years since the last time it took this long to reach the 70s. In 2001, the first 70-degree day came on April 1, according to National Weather Service records.

The latest Denver has ever had its first 70-degree day was in 1884 on April 24. The earliest was in 1997 on Jan. 2.

On Monday, the Pinpoint Weather team is expecting a high of 47 degrees along with showers. If all goes according to the forecast, it will mark the longest it has taken to hit 70 degrees in Denver since 1983.

Notably, it will be the longest it has taken to hit 70 since weather observation records began at Denver International Airport in 1995.

When will Denver hit 70 degrees?

Temperatures are expected to warm up an additional 10 degrees Tuesday and again Wednesday to 67 degrees.

Denver is on track to see its first days in the 70s on Thursday and Friday with sunshine and a high of 72.

The 70-degree mark doesn’t necessarily mark an end to winter weather for the year. According to the NWS, Denver normally gets 8.6 inches of snow in April.

Denver needs to receive over 18 inches of snow in April and May combined to meet the annual average. The last time Denver got that much snow in those two months was in 2013.
