Pinpoint Weather Alert Day for Saturday rain, mountain snow

DENVER (KDVR) — Rain and cooler temperatures have arrived in Denver’s weather forecast. A Pinpoint Weather Alert Day has been issued for Saturday as heavy, wet snow will fall in the mountains, foothills and potentially the south metro, leading to difficult travel.

Winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories will be in effect Friday evening through Sunday morning, and other parts of the metro will also see rain.

Weather tonight: Rain, mountain snow

Friday night, rain showers will become more widespread in the metro. Rain will mix and then transition to snow in higher elevations as lows drop below freezing.

Low temperatures in Denver will only fall to the 40s, which is 5 degrees warmer than normal and too warm for snow.

Weather tomorrow: Metro rain, mountain and foothill snow

Rain and cooler temperatures are in the forecast for the Denver area Saturday. Some of the heaviest rain will fall during the morning hours.

A Pinpoint Weather Alert Day has been issued on Saturday for heavy, wet snow creating difficult travel, especially in the mountains, foothills and around the Palmer Divide. The south and west metro areas could also see some heavy, wet snow.

Snow levels look to stay above 7,000 feet, with areas above 8,500 feet likely to pick up around 1-2 feet of snowfall, and areas in the foothills below 8,500 feet on track for 4-12 inches of snowfall.

Looking ahead: Drying, warmer start to the week

Sunday, a few showers will linger in the morning. Temperatures will be milder, reaching the upper 50s.

Sunshine and warmer weather return for the start of the workweek. Highs on Monday and Tuesday will be either end of 70 degrees. The next chance for showers and thunderstorms moves in midweek.
