Dead rodent, droppings, food waste found at Oakland McDonald’s

(KRON) — Rodent droppings, food crumbs and food waste were found on the floors of an Oakland McDonald’s shut down by the Alameda County Department of Environmental Health on Friday. According to an official inspection report, the McDonald’s, located at 1330 Jackson Street, received a -26 evaluation in the category of “No rodents, insects, birds, or animals.”

A detailed evaluation of the inspection revealed that the department received a report “regarding rodent activity inside the restaurant.” The inspector observed violations that included:

  • “Food crumbs and food waste on the floor under cooking equipment”

  • “Water pooling on the floor around the three compartment sink and washing machine”

  • “Rodent droppings on the floor around the water heater” and “along the wall where the oil containers are positioned”

The inspection also noted rodent traps and dirt behind the oil containers and “gaps along the top of the coving where the lower section of the wall and top of coving meet.”

Additional observations by the department included openings on the wall near the flood sink, near the ice machine and behind the metal sheet where the sink is located. Dirt was also seen accumulated around the containers and janitorial cleaning supplies.

A dead rodent in a trap was present near the soda syrup boxes when the inspection occurred.

Corrective actions ordered by the department included abatement of the rodent problem, daily removal of food debris from the floor, cleaning under equipment and shelves, eliminating the cause of plumbing leaks, and sealing all open holes, cracks and crevices on wall surface.

The report also ordered that the restaurant “remove all rodent droppings and dead rodents” from wooden snap traps and glue boards.

The inspection was performed on Friday, May 3. There was no specified date for a follow-up inspection on the report.
