WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) hosted a public prayer walk days after a toddler died after being caught in the crossfire of a shooting that broke out in Southeast D.C.

‘An innocent child that didn’t get to live her life’: Family reeling after toddler was killed in DC

MPD Police Chief Pamela Smith and members of the Faith Advisory Council hosted the walk in honor of 3-year-old Ty’ah Settles at the 7th District Police Station in Southeast Tuesday.

Smith said everyone needs to come together to prevent these situations from happening.

“We will deploy as many resources as we can but that’s not the final answer,” she said. “The answer is that we all got to come together as a community to have these young people and adults to put these guns down. This is such an unfortunate situation and we shouldn’t be standing here today.”

Settles was inside a car in the 2300 block of Hartford St. just after 9 p.m. on May 3 when a bullet hit her after a shooting broke out in the area.

Her family brought her to a nearby fire station where Park Police airlifted her to a hospital. Despite life-saving efforts, she died there.

Anyone with information is asked to call (202) 727-9099 or text 50411.

A reward of up to $50,000 was being offered to anyone with information that leads to an arrest and conviction of those involved.
