DC police arrest 12-year-old for vehicle, moped thefts

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Police arrested a 12-year-old boy who they say stole two cars and two mopeds.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said that it had arrested and charged the boy on Monday. Police said that all of the stolen mopeds and vehicles have been recovered.

MPD said the boy stole both of the mopeds in the 3100 block of 14th St. NW — one on June 14, 2023, and one on July 25, 2023.

One vehicle theft happened on July 11, 2023, in the 2900 block of 14th St. NW. The other happened on Jan. 6, in the 3000 block of 14th St. NW.

MPD said that surveillance footage helped officers identify and arrest the suspect and urged residents to look into D.C.’s security camera rebate program.
