DC police: 63-year-old man stabbed person in alleged hate crime incident in Northwest

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said a man was arrested for stabbing a person in a McDonald’s in Northwest D.C. on Tuesday evening.

Police said that around 6:15 p.m., the victims were inside the McDonald’s in the 1200 block of New York Ave. when they heard a man shouting.

A police report said that the man said “he will kill everyone and he hates white people” before approaching the victims with a knife. He threatened to kill one of them.

One of the victims then tried restraining the suspect and was stabbed.

MPD soon took the suspect into custody. He was identified as 63-year-old Reginald Pickett of Northeast, D.C.

Pickett is being charged with assault with a dangerous weapon. MPD said that it was investigating this incident as a possible hate crime.
