Dashcam footage shows moments leading to Second Street Bridge crash

New dashcam footage obtained by The Courier Journal shows the dramatic moments before a Sysco truck driver crashed into a guardrail on the George Rogers Clark Memorial Bridge in March.

The video, played during a grand jury disposition hearing Wednesday, shows the truck driver, Sydney Thomas, trying to correct the vehicle after being struck by a pickup traveling in the opposite direction. After being unable to regain control, the truck crossed two lanes of traffic before careening through the guardrail, leaving the cab hanging precariously over the Ohio River. Thomas was trapped for roughly 40 minutes before she was able to be rescued by the Louisville Fire Department.

Police say the man charged in the incident, 33-year-old Trevor Branham of Jeffersonville, Indiana, was driving a Chevrolet truck at an excessive speed and "weaving in and out of traffic" when he struck several vehicles, including Thomas' truck, and a Hyundai with two passengers, according to court documents.

The bridge remained closed for more than a month, The Courier Journal previously reported.

Branham is charged with four counts of first-degree wanton endangerment and one count of operating on a suspended or revoked operator's license in connection to the accident, court records show.

He is scheduled to make his next court appearance in June.
