Dartmouth election results: Fresh faces on Select Board, School Committee and more

DARTMOUTH — Dartmouth's Select Board, School Committee, Board of Assessors, Board of Library Trustees, Parks and Recreation Board, and Board of Health all have new faces headed their way after Tuesday's election.

Based on the unofficial counts announced Tuesday night, Christopher O'Neil won the contested seat for Select Board being left by member Frank Gracie III, who did not run for re-election. He'll be serving a three-year term. Select Board member David Tatelbaum will serve another three-year term based on a separate, uncontested race.

Filling the seat being left by School Committee member Dr. Shannon Jenkins is Mary Beckwith, who won in a close race against one opponent for a three-year term.

In the three-way Board of Library Trustees race for two three-year terms, Mary-Ann Cole and incumbent Linda Garibaldi were the top two vote-getters. Candidate Lynne Cotter will also be joining the board based on a separate, uncontested Library Trustee race for a one-year term,

And in the contested Board of Assessors race for one three-year term, incumbent Curtis Nunes topped his opponent.

The Board of Health will get Richard Romero as a new member based on an uncontested race for one three-year term. He will replace member Dr. Christian Pope, who did not run for re-election.

In the uncontested Parks and Recreation Board race, incumbent Joan Britto will retain her seat while candidate Sarah Ashley Freshman replaces member James Bosworth who did not run for re-election.

Other uncontested incumbents to be re-elected were: Margaret Ann Sweet (Planning Board), Elaine Carolyn Lancaster (Housing Authority), and Town Clerk Sarah Haskell Arruda.

Vote breakdown

The following breakdown of votes in this year's contested Dartmouth races is based on unofficial, uncertified results, as announced Tuesday night after polls closed.

Select Board (Lot #3): Christopher O’Neil - 2,094 votes (61%); John Sousa - 1,330 votes (39%).

School Committee: Mary Beckwith - 1,855 (53%); Kyle Ross - 1,619 (47%).

Board of Assessors: Curtis Nunes - 2,385 (75%); Albert Lay - 771 (25%).

Board of Library Trustees: Mary-Ann Cole - 1,968 votes (37%); Linda Marlene Garibaldi - 2,087 (39%); Maya Anna Matthy Wolfson - 1,282 (24%).

How was voter turnout?

According to unofficial preliminary counts, 3,734 voters participated in this year's town election out of of 24,350 total registered voters, for a turnout of 15.3%.
