Darlington County man sentenced to 10 years in prison for 2023 drug and firearm crimes

DARLINGTON, S.C. (WBTW) – A Darlington County man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for drug and firearm crimes that occurred in 2023, the Fourth Circuit Solicitor’s Office said Friday.

Jayme Martell English was convicted of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a stolen firearm.  English was scheduled for a jury trial Monday, but just before jury selection, English entered a guilty plea, the solicitor’s office said.

English pled guilty without any sentencing negotiation or recommendation from prosecutors.  Judge Kirk Griffin sentenced him to 10 years’ incarceration, the solicitor’s office said.

English was charged in April 2023 after he was found with a stolen firearm and methamphetamine during a search conducted by agents with the SC Department of Probation, Pardon, and Parole services who were searching for another wanted person.

English was at the location being searched and was searched himself due to evidence indicating drugs were present, the solicitor’s office said.

The case was prepared for trial by Assistant Solicitors Patti Parker, Savannah Baxley, and J.T. Baxley.

English must serve 85% of his sentence before becoming parole eligible. He will serve his sentence in a facility determined by the South Carolina Department of Corrections, the solicitor’s office said.
