Update at 5 p.m.

Danville Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. said in a statement to the media the city did bid on all three properties for $4.5 million, but the offer was rejected.

Despite the rejection, the city is optimistic for the space.

“We have been working behind the scenes to ensure the future success of this facility & will continue to do so,” the mayor said.

Williams Jr. also confirmed the first section of the mall, including the County Market, Pet Supplies Plus, Dunham’s and Ross did not sell due to the auction failing to meet the reserve amount. The city does not know who won the bids for the second and third section, but knows of multiple local developers who had plans for the space.

DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — The auction for the Danville Village Mall is coming to a close.

The three spaces for the land were put up for auction Monday morning. The previous owners, AZT Corporation, put the land up for sale. City officials complained communication with AZT has been difficult.

Mall officials also forced inflatable playground The JumpOff! to leave the mall in March, even though their owner claimed their lease was not up until May or June.

The grocery anchored section, which includes County Market, Pet Supplies Plus, Ross Stores, and Dunham’s Sports ended at 11:45 a.m., with a bid of $4,750,000. The auction website listed that bid as “reserve not met.”

The other two properties, the added retail parcel and the outlot, have no reserve price and had a starting bid of $1. These sections are set to end at 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m.

The added retail parcel, which includes JOANN Fabrics, Bath & Body Works, and Hibbet Sporting Goods, was auctioned off at $470,000. The outlot was sold to the highest bidder at $42,501.

Danville Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. previously advised people to not bid if they do not have the resources to manage the properties, as they will enforce building codes and other ordinances.

The mall has been around since the 1970s.
