Danville Aquatic Center pushes tentative opening to June

DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — Swimmers will have to wait a little longer for the Danville Aquatic Center to open. After hopes for a late May pool opening, it is now being pushed into June due to an unexpected issue.

There was a small leak found when the pool was being filled last week. This issue creates a chain reaction that will ultimately delay the opening. It pushed the scheduled inspection by the Illinois Department of Public Health back a week.

When can you dive into pools across Central Illinois?

Consequently, this will delay opening into early June. It was discussed at last night’s city council meeting.

“They basically began to fill the pool up, found a slight leak, they fixed it, [and] it’s already been rectified,” Director of Public Works David Ruwe said. “However, that just kind of pushes the schedule back a little bit.”

Public Works officials said they’ll have more information and specific dates for opening after the inspection takes place.
