‘You dangerous’: Recordings capture former CCSD middle school staffer’s explicit comments to girls

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Several recordings obtained by 8 News Now capture a former Henderson assistant principal making inappropriate comments to female students.

The audio prompted school police to launch an investigation that led to the arrest of 61-year-old Howard Hughes.

According to court documents, Del Web Middle School staff members identified Hughes to Clark County School District Police as the man in the recordings.

Hughes was an assistant principal at Del Webb at the time, he has since resigned.

The 61-year-old is in jail in Ellis County, Texas on a $100,000 bond for the Clark County charges.

“I can’t believe I was that close to you. Some things are happening inside of me,” Hughes was heard saying in the recording. “You got me excited. Damn, you dangerous.”

Multiple sources, who provided the recordings to 8 News Now, say Hughes was talking to a 13-year-old girl.

“I think about you all the time, like 24/7 it seems like. You don’t seem like a student. It seems like I’ve known you forever. It seems like you’re an adult,” Hughes said. “You look like an adult. Very mature for your age.”

According to the arrest warrant, a student told investigators her relationship with Hughes began in October of last year when he invited her into his office for personal and mental health problems.

Then the inappropriate comments began.

“Passionate, like not sex. Not [expletive]. There’s a difference. When you make love to somebody, it’s because you truly love them. Everything else is just sex, or just [expletive],” Hughes is heard saying.

U.S. Marshals arrested Hughes in Texas on Friday as there were concerns he would run off to Mexico.

According to Ellis County jail records, Hughes is facing three counts of online solicitation of a minor for sex and three counts of indecency with a child. His charges in Henderson are three counts of contacting a minor by a person of authority for sex.

The Clark County School District Police Department received copies of the recordings with the most recent one taking place on March 5.

“If people wasn’t out there right now, I would hug you so tight. I might even want to kiss you,” Hughes is heard saying in the recording.

He will eventually be extradited to Clark County.

Several parents told 8 News Now they weren’t notified by the principal of Del Webb of the allegations against Hughes until after 8 News Now’s report.
