Our Daily Bread to host job and resource fair Friday

Apr. 23—Stillwater residents who need help finding a job will have opportunities and community resources available to them this week.

Our Daily Bread will host its annual Job and Resource Fair from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday at 701 East 12th Ave.

More than 50 organizations and businesses in Payne County will have tables set up inside the building, advertising resources they offer and services to help those in need.

Organizations include those focused on childcare and parenting resources, low-income housing, healthcare, healthy living, job search support, crisis services and summer activities. Guests may walk through the building to find the specific help they are looking for.

"The purpose of this event is to educate the community on the resources that are out there, because oftentimes, the guests that we see simply don't know about what's going on and what is offered to them and what's required of them to get that resource," said Kenadie Grimes, internal program manager at Our Daily Bread.

Businesses will also be available for either on-site interviews or to provide more information in case someone is interested in applying for a job.

There will also be a table where attendees can have someone help build their resume or review their current resume.

In addition, another table will have business casual clothing available for free.

Grimes said having organizations at the event is just the first step for guests.

"The job and business side is offering them the next step," she said. "It's not, 'Hey, we're not just going to shower you with all these different resources to think about, but we're also going to have jobs for you to look at. It's free, and you don't have to do anything but show up."

Guests will have access to haircut appointments at the Our Daily Bread salon, health screenings provided by the Payne County Health Department and vision screenings provided in partnership with the Stillwater Noon Lions Club.

BabyMobile and WIC Mobile Clinic will be set up outside the building.

The Salvation Army will also have its canteen truck outside the building with hot meals provided.

This is the fourth year Our Daily Bread has hosted the event, and it has continued to grow each year as more organizations have joined forces to offer services to the community.

Grimes said the staff isn't focusing on a specific demographic or age group.

"It's not just offered to our guests that shop at Our Daily Bread, but it's offered to the entire community," Grimes said. "It's for anyone who is interested in learning more or just getting a better awareness of what's happening in Stillwater."
