Massive TikToker loses access to account with 100 million followers: 'TikTok locked everyone out'

·2 min read

One of the most prominent families on TikTok allegedly fell victim to hackers and got locked out of their accounts, which collectively boast tens of millions of followers.

On Dec. 13, hackers appeared to take control of Dixie D’Amelio’s TikTok account. With 46.4 million followers as of writing, the older D’Amelio sister is one of the most-followed people on the app.

Before her account was deleted entirely on Dec. 14, some of her followers captured photos and screen recordings of videos that the alleged hackers posted to her account. Before TikTok took action and disabled the account, the supposed hacker also went live and plugged his own Instagram account, @koiiddd.

In one post, the alleged hackers mentioned the Chuckling Squad, an infamous hacker group that has infiltrated the profiles of celebrities like Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, YouTuber Shane Dawson and makeup guru James Charles. Another post mentioned the Instagram account @lucifer, whom, according to Insider, claimed that the Chucking Squad was behind the hack.

“Just know ‘chuckling squad’ is back,” the user behind @lucifer told Insider while threatened that more hacks were imminent. “[This] will be a daily re occurrence [sic].”

Dixie wasn’t the only member of her family who was seemingly hacked, either. Not long after her profile was disabled, her father Marc’s TikTok account also started posting strange videos referencing the @lucifer Instagram account. Both Dixie and Marc have since regained access to their accounts.

The D’Amelio family isn’t out of the woods yet, though. During an Instagram Live on Dec. 14, Dixie’s sister Charli — who has 103 million followers on TikTok, the most of anyone on the app — revealed that she is currently locked out of her account, merely as a safety precaution.

“With all of the hacking that has been going on lately, I currently do not have access to my TikTok account just because TikTok locked everyone out of my account,” she explained. “That way nothing would happen to any more of my family’s TikTok accounts.”

So far, Charli’s account hasn’t been hacked, but given what’s happened to her family, it’s possible the Chuckling Squad is coming for her next.
