The issue was resolved by 11:45 a.m., according to the organization’s Facebook page.

“We’re broadcasting on all stations and frequencies after the outage this morning,” WGVU wrote. “Again, we apologize for any inconvenience.”

Community members were notified of the interruption, which stemmed from a cut fiber optic cable, just before 9 a.m.

“We regret to inform you that our broadcast signal for both WGVU TV and FM in the greater Grand Rapids area is currently experiencing an interruption due to a cut fiber optic line that feeds our signals,” WGVU wrote in its announcement. “We are actively working to resolve this issue with our service providers and hope to restore the broadcast signal as soon as possible.”

WGVU — then WGVC — launched in 1972 as a local PBS affiliate housed at Grand Valley State Colleges. GVSU changed its name to Grand Valley State University in 1987 and the call letters for the stations were updated as well.

Both the TV station and radio station produce local content along with PBS and NPR programming.
