May 20—The new director of the Currier Museum of Art has an extensive resume of museum work across the country, including being the chief curator at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C.

Jordana Pomeroy is set to start as the new director and CEO of the Manchester institution on Sept. 1.

Since 2015, Pomeroy has been the director at The Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum on the campus of Florida International University in Miami.

According to a news release, Pomeroy brings 30 years of experience as museum director, curator, educator and writer.

She replaces Alan Chong, the ninth director of the museum, who resigned last April after being the director and CEO for nearly seven years. He came to the Currier from a museum in Singapore.

The museum's acquisition of the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Kalil House — which the board decided to acquire and was bolstered by a generous, anonymous gift — is considered the most significant addition under Chong's tenure. The museum also purchased the nearby Chandler mansion.

Pomeroy has worked in establishing the Frost museum's role in building inclusive communities and has prioritized engagement across the city, including with hospitals and schools.

For 15 years, she served as chief curator at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C.

Pomeroy said in a statement the museum serves as an "anchor for a changing Manchester," a city seeking culture, entrepreneurship and innovation.

"I am looking forward to working with the staff and trustees to deepen the connections of the museum to the city and New Hampshire at large, and to ensure that the Currier continues to be a welcoming space for all visitors," she said.

President of the Board of Trustees Steve Duprey said, "Her extensive experience and visionary leadership make her the perfect choice to guide the museum into its next century. We are confident that under her direction, the Currier will continue to thrive and serve as a cultural cornerstone for our community and state."

Pomeroy holds a BA in Art History from Bryn Mawr College and a PhD in Art History from Columbia University.
