CT man crashes into concrete median on I-91, drives wrong way before DUI arrest

A man was arrested Sunday night on DUI and other charges for crashing into the concrete media on Interstate 91 in Windsor before driving the wrong way until his car broke down.

Troopers received a report of the crash just after 11:10 p.m. on I-91 North in the area of Exit 40, according to Connecticut State Police.

State police said the driver involved, 58-year-old James Sanders of East Granby, entered the highway through Exit 40 and veered across all three lanes before striking a concrete barrier in the median. He then began driving the wrong way until his vehicle became disabled, according to state police.

Troopers were able to speak to a witness allegedly who saw the whole thing.

No injuries were reported, state police said.

According to state police, Sanders allegedly showed signs of impairment and was arrested on charges of operating under the influence, failure to maintain the proper lane, reckless driving, driving the wrong way, operating without insurance and first-degree reckless endangerment.

Sanders was released on a 25,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Hartford Superior Court on May 30.
