CRRUA asks customers to reduce water use as summer approaches

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – Due to current high demands, the Camino Real Regional Utility Authority (CRRUA), which supplies water to Santa Teresa and Sunland Park, is asking customers to voluntarily reduce water use and to initiate “water conservation practices” in advance of summer, the utility announced via a Facebook post on Wednesday, April 24.

“Several water wells are offline for repairs and maintenance,” said CRRUA interim Executive Director Juan Carlos Crosby. “The combination of the offline wells and high demand is prompting us to ask customers to reduce water consumption.”

No formal water restrictions are in place, said Crosby. But given the fast-approaching summer season a mandatory water restriction resolution could go before the CRRUA board of directors for implementation, according to the post.

“When water levels in water tanks drop to a low level, sediments at the bottom of the water tank could be disturbed, possibly causing discoloration. Although the water is safe to consume, CRRUA recommends waiting for it to clear before washing laundry,” read the post.
