Critical injury crash causing traffic delays in Salt Lake City

UPDATE, 7:44 p.m.: The Salt Lake City Police Department is investigating a critical injury crash that involved a motorcycle and a small crossover utility vehicle in the Central City neighborhood on Monday.

The investigation started at about 5:25 p.m. on Monday, March 18, when SLC911 received multiple calls about a crash near 350 S 200 E, SLCPD said.

Detectives are working to conduct a full crash reconstruction, but based on the preliminary investigation, SLCPD said a Mazda CX5 and a motorcyclist collided on 200 East.

The crash reportedly critically injured the motorcyclist, a 20-year-old man. Paramedics took him to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police said the motorcyclist did not appear to be wearing a helmet.

The driver of the Mazda, a 61-year-old woman, remained on-scene and is cooperating, SLCPD said.

Officers have closed 200 East in both directions between 300 and 400 South, and they expect that closure to last for several hours.

Due to the severity of the motorcyclist’s injuries, the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Team and SLCPD Crime Lab technicians also responded to the scene.
