One killed in Carlsbad house fire

CARLSBAD, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — One person was killed and another was injured Saturday after a fire broke out in a Carlsbad home.

The Carlsbad Fire Department responded to the structure fire at a duplex in the 900 block of Pine Avenue Saturday afternoon, with several engines arriving on the scene.

According to Carlsbad Police, a call came in around 1:30 p.m. reporting the blaze. Smoke could be seen throughout the area and from the I-5 freeway.

The fire department confirmed Saturday evening that one person died and another person was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. The identities of the victims have not yet been released.

Carlsbad Police updated the public on X, stating that eastbound Pine Avenue at Harding Street will remain closed for an unknown amount of time while an investigation takes place. All other roads have since reopened.

Previously, Harding Street from Oak Avenue to Pine Avenue was closed while crews battled the fire.

The cause of the blaze was not immediately known, but the fire department says the fire has been contained.
