Crews recover body found in Connecticut River

A body was recovered from the Connecticut River in Suffield on Friday morning.

Police were notified just after 8:30 of a possible dead person in the river along the Canal Trail, according to Capt. Robert Palmer of the Suffield Police Department.

Officers responded to the area along with the Suffield Fire Department and Suffield Volunteer Ambulance Association. Members of the Enfield Fire Department also assisted with support with boats in the river, Palmer said.

Palmer said a recovery operation was initiated once officers confirmed a dead person was in the river.

“The terrain was extremely challenging and the current posed safety issues for recovery personnel,” Palmer said in a statement.

The body was pulled from the river around 11 a.m.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner responded to the scene and will look to determine the cause and manner of death.

According to Palmer, authorities have identified the victim but their identity won’t be released until next of kin notifications have been made.
