JOPLIN, Mo. — Water main breaks on a busy Joplin thoroughfare Thursday morning flooded roadways and diverted traffic.

Missouri American Water confirmed two breaks occurred along E 15th St., closing the roadway at some parts.

The city closed the road east of the 15th & Main St. intersection to Virginia Ave. A second closure is at 15th and Illinois Ave for eastbound traffic. Drivers are advised to find alternate routes for the time being.

Crews with MAW are already on-site at both locations working to fix the breaks. The closures will remain until repairs are complete.

Additionally, MAW estimates around 30 customers are without water near the area. Restoring water at these homes may take up to 4-6 hours, the company added.
