Crews battle large house fire near North Plains

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Fire crews battled a large residential fire near North Plains Wednesday morning, authorities said.

Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue said they arrived on scene at about 6:12 a.m. to respond to a house near 16600 Dairy Creek Road where a home was heavily on fire, with smoke and flames throughout.

According to authorities, the fire began in the home’s kitchen and quickly spread, engulfing the entire house.

It was a difficult process, authorities said, due to downed power lines and the property being hard to reach. The effort included using water tenders (tanker vehicles filled with water), laying out 2,000 feet of hose to get the water down a long driveway and using water from a nearby pond, according a TVF&R Facebook post.

Officials said everyone got out of the house and one person was checked for minor injuries but they were alright. However, several cats on the property remain unaccounted for, with a fire investigator remaining at the scene.
