Crews battle brush fires in South-Central El Paso

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – The El Paso Fire Department responded to a three brush fires along train tracks in South-Central El Paso on Saturday afternoon, March 30.

The fires are now extinguished, fire officials said.

The fire happened a little after 1 p.m. near Copia and Interstate 10. No injuries or property damage were reported, said Battalion Chief Fernando Zeh.

Zeh said that when firefighters originally arrived, the found two fires along the train tracks and then discovered a third.

The fires burned brush and trash along the tracks.

Witnesses said they saw sparks from a train and that is what is believed to have started the fire, Zeh said.

Eight firetrucks responded to the fires.
